Three subjects. One decision. Five hundred marks riding on it. Get your optional right and it quietly carries your GS papers, your essay, even your interview; get it wrong and you spend fourteen months forcing yourself to read something your brain rejects at eleven o'clock every night. This page gives you a method, not an opinion — the same five-question checklist from the full video above — for the PSIR vs Sociology vs Anthropology decision.

First, the four wrong ways to choose

The three souls

PSIR is the theory of the news. Trump, delimitation, the LPG price that moved because of Iran — PSIR is the discipline that answers "why", with 2,500 years of thinkers behind it, Plato to the end-of-history debate. Your syllabus refreshes itself in the newspaper every morning. That is its power — and its workload.

Sociology is the theory of the people around you. If a wedding's silent status negotiations fascinate you, Sociology hands you the instruments — Marx, Durkheim, Weber — and says: now do it properly.

Anthropology is the biography of our species — bones, genes, tools, tribes. The most scientific of the three; where a PSIR answer quotes a scholar, an Anthropology answer draws a labelled diagram, and the diagram earns the marks.

Five rounds, honestly scored

The 5-question decision checklist

And if the checklist points away from PSIR — take that seriously. We teach PSIR; we still don't want you in this subject if your brain lives in fossils or kinship diagrams. A wrong-fit student writes average answers forever, and this exam doesn't pay for average. If it points to PSIR: your next stop is the free orientation class and the full syllabus.
